STEAM Curriculum
The iCreate STEAM curriculum fosters innovation, creativity, and collaboration through STEAM Education. The iCreate STEAM curriculum follows the new academic standards for Science, Technology, & Engineering, Environmental Literacy & Sustainability Science Standards for grades K-5 and follows the PA Learning Standards for Early Childhood Continuum for Pre-K.
The iCreate STEAM curriculum follows the project- based learning method. It incorporates science, technology, engineering, art, and math into learning through inquiry, exploration, and play. In our curriculum students not only read about STEAM, they actively participate in STEAM activities, such as designing simple investigations, collecting data, and solving design problems.
Why is the iCreate STEAM curriculum different? We implement the BSCS 5E Instructional Model. In the 5E Model the traditional roles of the teacher and student are virtually reversed. Students take much of the responsibility for learning as they construct knowledge through discovery. The teacher acts as a guide: raising questions, providing opportunities for exploration or problem solving, asking for evidence to support student explanations, referring students to existing explanations, correcting misconceptions, and coaching students as they apply new concepts.
Each unit within our iCreate STEAM curriculum allows children to work together towards a larger goal while learning key concepts across multiple domains of learning. For example, the Growing Our Garden curriculum unit addresses learning across multiple domains while collaborating with other peers.
Math: measure growth of plants
Science: growing plants, learning where food comes from, learning the difference between living versus nonliving.
Literacy: reading informational texts about living versus nonliving things, what items will grow, and keeping a science journal.
Socio-emotional: working together and collaborating to grow a garden.
